Concept illustration—not a photograph of ArmSoM hardware.
“It works on my board” is a useful milestone, but it is not yet a repeatable deployment process. The next challenge is making a second device behave predictably without relying on undocumented manual changes.
The ArmSoM W3 documentation describes an RK3588 platform built around the LM7 core module. For a W3 project, keep the hardware configuration and software release record together so that another developer can reproduce the intended setup.
Create a small release record
Keep these details beside the deployment instructions:
Board and hardware revision:
Base image filename and source:
Image checksum:
Kernel and application versions:
Attached peripherals:
Configuration changes:
Acceptance test and result:
Recovery procedure:
A checksum helps identify the exact file being used, but a checksum from an untrusted source does not establish authenticity. Retain the official download source as well.
Separate the common image from device identity
Before distributing an image, review it for passwords, private keys, tokens, saved wireless credentials and customer data. Do not turn a development system containing personal credentials into a reusable deployment image.
Decide which settings belong to every device and which must be provisioned individually. Document how each device receives its identity and credentials without publishing those secrets in a forum post or release note.
Validate a clean installation
Use a spare board or a designated test storage device. Back up anything needed before writing an image, and follow the documented flashing procedure for the exact hardware.
Test the release from its initial state, not only on the development board that already has extra packages installed. Verify startup, peripheral detection, application behavior and a normal reboot.
Make recovery part of the release
Keep a known-good version and document how to return to it. If an update changes application data, test data compatibility separately; restoring an older system image may not undo a database migration.
For your next W3 project handoff, aim for one clear result: another person can deploy and check the system from the written instructions. Which part of your current setup still depends on manual knowledge?
