Concept illustration—not a photograph of ArmSoM hardware.
Speech processing is difficult to evaluate when the input recording is already distorted or comes from the wrong device. A useful first milestone is a short, repeatable recording—not a complete voice assistant.
ArmSoM P2 Pro uses the Rockchip RK3308B-S, and its product documentation highlights the platform’s audio and IoT focus. Check the board’s actual connectors and your image’s support before choosing a microphone or codec; processor-level interface capabilities alone do not establish a working board-level connection.
Define the recording setup
Write down the microphone or audio device model, physical connection, required power, channel count, sample rate and sample format.
Use a device and connection documented for the selected hardware. Microphone inputs, line-level inputs and digital audio interfaces are not interchangeable. Do not connect an external signal until its electrical requirements have been checked.
Create a repeatable sample
Record a short passage in a controlled environment, with the speaker at a fixed distance. Include a few seconds of room sound before and after speech. Use consenting participants and non-sensitive content.
Listen to the saved file before adding recognition, streaming or noise reduction. Check:
- Is the intended input being recorded?
- Are the expected channels present?
- Is speech clear without harsh clipping?
- Are there clicks, gaps or speed changes?
- Does the result remain consistent across repeated recordings?
Keep input gain and speaker distance separate during testing. Increasing gain is not a universal solution to a noisy recording.
Add processing one stage at a time
Once capture is reliable, introduce one processing component and compare its output with the original recording. If a voice engine requires a different format, make the conversion explicit and retain the unprocessed reference.
For long-running experiments, define retention limits for recordings and logs. If cloud processing is involved, tell users where audio is sent and avoid uploading private speech during debugging.
What is your P2 Pro audio project: a recorder, an intercom prototype or a voice interface? Share the input device and required audio format so others can help with the right stage of the pipeline.
